DIY mobile (inspired by DwellStudio Owls)

Image
I was inspired by this DIY mobile . I didn't take step-by-step photos of how I made it, sorry, so I'll try and explain it as best I can. To create Mason's mobile: I copied owls and trees off of the DwellStudio Owls pattern online and made them into a Photoshop file. (see below for printable version) Then I printed the file on card stock (I didn't want to use regular paper because I wanted some thickness to the pattern). Then I cut the shapes out and I had my patterns! I then took the felt I had bought from Giant Dwarf on Etsy.com and placed my patterns onto the felt and cut around the pattern to create the pieces for the trees and owls. Felt colors I ordered: Peacock, cinnamon, chestnut, moss, glacier, dove, almond, mushroom I ordered way more then I needed, so I would say 1 per color should be fine. Then when I got them in the mail, I matched up the colors using photos of the DS owl pattern I found online. You can just use photos of my mobile!...

My 13 Tips for Planning a Budget Nursery

Image
10 months ago I had no idea what even goes into a nursery (besides a crib), but after researching and decorating my own nursery, I guess you can say I'm pretty knowledgeable on this subject now. I'd like to jot down my tips for anyone who might come across this blog and need some advice on starting their own nursery on a budget. This is ultimately how I came up with Mason's nursery... First, I had to figure out what type of vibe or style I wanted the room to have (modern, vintage, traditional, etc.), so I went on a massive inspiration photo search on the Internet to see what I was being drawn to. Tip #1: Gather all your inspiration photos and save them to a folder in your computer. I put mine on my desktop for easy access. You can make different files within the file of your favorite photos to narrow down what you love vs. what you like. Great websites to use for inspiration photos are: Pinterest, On To Baby, Spearmint Baby, Cheap & Chic Nursery, and P...

Decals for Nursery

I realized I never put pictures up of the nursery decals . Here they are!

Nursery Tour

The nursery isn't completely done yet, but I figure I can just add to this post or create a new post when we finish. We still need to: Make the crib skirt. I have all the materials, I just need to get motivated and make it! Put up the Chirpie Tree decal on the wall, which we are waiting to be delivered. Other than those 2 things, we are done! Without further ado, here is Mason Charles Buckley's nursery: View from the hallway as you walk in. The far wall will be where we put the Chirpie Tree decal. I used Photoshop to put the decal into the photo. This is how it might look after the decal is there: (dimensions might be off)...  In the corner near the door there is the laundry basket and the sign-in picture we got from our baby shower! Here's a close up of the sign-in picture: Right wall: Changing table/dresser we inherited from Michael's sister Laura and painted it white. The Ikea wall organizer is holding diapers, ...

DIY book ledges for nursery

Image
We hung our DIY book ledges last night and we LOVE them! We used THIS plan to build them. Right now we have only a few books, but after the baby shower we should have alot more books. Instead of cards, we asked guests to bring a book! :) The banner above the ledges says R E A D. It's from THIS blog. I printed them and cut them out and hung them using some clothspins, string, and tacs we already own. I like it so much, I might do another banner some where else in the room. The corner where the window is is where we plan to put the glider. We can picture us reading books to Mason there! We also hung a mirror that my Mom gave me that was my Grandma's and I spray painted it gray (it was gold) and put the dresser/changing table in the room. The dresser is going to be painted white. The left corner in the above photo is where we plan to put a garbage pail (ignore the dresser drawer that's in the way). I like THIS one from IKE...
